Wags Café and Bistro is a French dog café in the Starland District of Savannah, Georgia. Wags is for people and their four-legged pups with dog-safe meals and treats to bring dog owners together to build a community.

The concept behind Wags came from a walk in downtown Savannah. My roommate and I were walking by Pounce Cat Café on Broughton Street when we found no dog cafés or places designed for dog owners to bring their pups. Restaurants in Savannah have always welcomed our four-legged friends with dog bowls and treats, but no restaurant in Savannah offers dog-friendly alternatives to dishes already on their menu. Wags also includes a membership option for guests. Those who download the Wags app can order ahead for either pickup or dine-in options. Wags Members can earn points towards redeemable rewards for themselves or their pups. To help strengthen the Wags community, Wags hosts Member nights where those with a Wags account can bring their dogs for live music and extended hours in the café backyard.

The Wags logo is that of a Brittany Spaniel, a pointer breed bred for hunting. The Brittany Spaniel is known to be attentive, intelligent, eager to please, and very friendly. With the Brittany embodying key characteristics of Wags, they were the perfect breed to act as a mascot for Wags, the perfect place for people and pups.

The perfect place for people and pups

Wags is made for the extroverted, social, adventurous, and active dog parents of Savannah, Georgia.

When picking a breed to represent Wags, I wanted to make sure that the dog carried some of the same characteristics that the location itself would have.

I landed on the brittany spaniel, a breed which is known for being very intelligent, lively, and having a very upbeat disposition.

The original idea for Wags came from a morning jog in downtown Savannah. From Forsyth Park to River Street and back, this particular morning I noticed more dog parents out than usual getting their morning coffee and pastries to go, while their pups kept begging to have a bite. I thought about Pounce Cat Café on Broughton Street and realized that there wasn’t a place where Savannah dog owners could sit down and get a special treat for their pooch and themselves without the worry of them overindulging.

If there is one thing I know it’s that everyone loves a good deal and the Wags mobile app makes things easier than ever. With three different tiers members are able to gain better rewards the more that they spend which they can use to redeem for a variety of treats for both themselves and their four-legged family members.

Take a peek at all the local pups featured in this project, and a big thank you to my friend Phalicity Pour for allowing me to feature both you and Duke in this project!
